SHERIFF
WARD WISHES EVERYONE A SAFE SUMMER
Summer time
is a great time to get out and enjoy outdoor activities and the warm
weather. It is also an important time to stay safe. The following
are some suggestions for a safe and happy summer:
- Water
safety: with swimming pools, lakes, and ponds, swimming is often a
favorite summer time activity. Properly supervise children around
water. Learn to swim and encourage water safety. When boating, use
life jackets and avoid alcohol. Water sports and alcohol do not mix.
Know the depth of any water you plan to jump or dive into. Use the buddy
system when swimming and never allow children to swim unsupervised.
- Use sun
screen: being out in the sun also increases risk for over exposure to the
sun, risk of skin cancer, and other hazards. Using sun screen of at least
SPF 15, and staying in the shade minimizes risk to over exposure.
- Watch for
changing weather: Summer time also means the possibility of thunderstorms or
quickly changing weather patterns. Check the local forecast before going
out and be aware of any sudden or coming changes in weather.
-Summer time
also means cook outs, family reunions, and other activities. Choose a
designated driver when alcohol will be served. Never get behind the wheel
intoxicated. Not only do you compromise your own safety, but everyone on
the road is placed at risk.
Website
Update Notice
Effective March 6, 2009, the
website at the Highland County Sheriff's Office will only be updated as it
pertains to Registered Sex Offenders, WebJamin and Special News releases on a
regular basis. This is due to layoffs of 20% of the workforce at the Highland
County Sheriff's Office due to massive budgets cuts handed down to Sheriff Ward
by the Highland County Board of Commissioners in the past several months. This
is a regrettable situation, but we are working with the Board of Commissioner
and other county agencies to get the economic situation locally pointed in the
right direction. We understand this may cause an inconvenience to citizens that
view our website regularly, but it is a necessary action. We hope to resume
daily updates as future budget allocations allow. Thank you for your
understanding during these tough economic times.
