Website Update Notice

Effective March 6, 2009, the website for the Highland County Sheriff's Office will only be update as it pertains to Registered Sex Offenders, WebJamin and Special News releases on a regular basis and Sheriff Sales when possible. This is due to layoffs of 20% of the workforce at the Highland County Sheriff's Office due to massive budget cuts handed down to Sheriff Ward by the Highland County Board of Commissioners in the past several months. This is a regrettable situation, but we are working with the Board of Commissioners and other county agencies to get the economic situation locally pointed in the right direction. We understand this may cause inconvenience to citizens that view our website regularly, but it is a necessary action. We hope to resume daily updates as future budget allocations allow. Thank you for your understanding during these tough economic times.

February 22, 2009

An investigation was initiated upon the report of threats made to a resident in the 3800 block of Davidson Road, Hillsboro. Upon further investigation Ryan West, age 18 of Hillsboro was apprehended and charged with criminal damaging and two counts of aggravated menacing. Cody Patton, age 18 of Hillsboro was apprehended and charged with criminal damaging, assault and two counts of aggravated menacing.

An investigation was initiated upon the report of a domestic dispute in the 7800 block of West Prospect Road, Hillsboro. Upon further investigation Ryan Hauptman, age 18 and Jennifer Biron, age 27 of Hillsboro were apprehended and charged with domestic violence. 

February 20, 2009

At 5:50 AM Loren O'Cull, age 37 of Hillsboro was eastbound on West Lane when a deer ran into his lane of travel causing him to strike the deer. O'Cull's 1996 Honda sustained functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

At 4:27 PM Charles Vogtli, age 38 of Hillsboro was northbound on St Rt 73 when a deer ran into his lane of travel causing him to strike the deer. Vogtli's 2004 Ford sustained functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

At 1:40 AM Darlene Richmond, age 63 of Hillsboro was northbound on St Rt 753 when a deer ran into her lane of travel causing her to strike the deer. Richmond's 1998 Lincoln sustained non-functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

At 4:55 AM Jayne Martin, age 47 of Hillsboro was northbound on Davidson Road when she struck a large pile snow that was placed in the roadway. Martin's 2004 Honda sustained non-functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

At 4:11 PM Suzanne Maynard, age 42 was eastbound on St Rt 506 when she lost control on the ice covered roadway and went off the left side of the roadway into the the ditch. Maynard's 2006 Chevy sustained disabling damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

At 11:47 AM Dennis Osborne, age 51 of Fayetteville was westbound on St Rt 131when he swerved to avoid striking a striking a branch that was in the roadway and went off the right side into the ditch. The 2008 Freightliner he was operating sustained functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

An investigation was initiated upon the report of an assault in the 2600 block of Stephen Road, Hillsboro. Upon further investigation Amanda Castro, age 26 of Hillsboro was apprehended and charged with persistent disorderly conduct.

At 9:12 AM Laura Jenkins, age 23 of Englewood was southbound on St Rt 72 when she lost control and crossed the centerline striking the guardrail and then traveled off the right side striking a tree. The 2004 Ford she was operating sustained severe damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. 

At 11:15 AM Allison McCullough, age 19 of Hillsboro was southbound on St Rt 73 when she lost control on the ice covered roadway going off the right side striking trees. McCullough's 1998 Honda sustained disabling damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

At 1:33 AM Travis Mullenix, age 37 of Hillsboro was southbound on McCoppin Mill Road when he lost lost control and went off the left side striking a tree. Mullenix's 1998 Chevy sustained functional damage. No injuries were reported. Mullenix was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired.

An investigation was initiated upon the report of criminal damaging on Cynthiana Road, Hillsboro. This offense remains under investigation. 

At 9:59 AM Jade Kingsolver, age 23 of Hillsboro was southbound on St Rt 73 when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the right side of the roadway then overcorrected and went off the left side of the roadway striking a group of trees and came to rest back on the roadway. Kingsolver and a passenger were transported to Highland District Hospital by private vehicle. Kingsolver's 1995 Honda sustained severe damage. Kingsolver was charged with failure to maintain control and operating a motor vehicle while impaired.

At 6:58 AM Erik Brown, age 23 of Winchester was southbound on St Rt 321 when he went off the right side of the roadway then overcorrected and went off the left side of the roadway overturning and coming to rest on it's wheels. Brown's 2001 Ford sustained severe damage. No injuries were reported. Brown was cited for failure to maintain control.

At 7:01 AM David Ritze, age 52 of Hillsboro was southbound on St Rt 73 when a deer ran into his lane of travel causing him to strike the deer. The 2009 Chevy he was operating sustained non-functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

At 6:33 AM Andrew McIntire, age 26 of Batavia was southbound on US 62 when he lost control and went off the right side of the roadway striking a phone box and a fence. McIntire's 2005 Chevy sustained disabling damage. No injuries were reported. McIntire was charged with failure to maintain control and operating a motor vehicle while impaired. 

At 5:51 PM Shelly Johnson, age 69 of Lynchburg was westbound on Leonard Road while Jospeh Hart, age 37 of Lynchburg was traveling eastbound. The drivers of both vehicles lost control on the icy roadway and slid into each other. Johnson's 2003 Dodge and Hart's 1992 Chrysler both sustained severe damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

At 8:45 PM Gary Gibson, age 50 of Centerville was westbound on St Rt 506 when a deer ran into his lane of travel causing him to strike the deer. The 1999 Ford she was operating sustained  non-functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

At 4:22 PM Jacqueline Fenner, age 47 of Hillsboro was eastbound on US 50 when another vehicle driven by Melinda Fecke, age 22 of Hillsboro pulled out of a driveway into her lane of travel attempting to turn left and was struck by Fenner. Fenner's 1999 Honda and Fecke's 2004 Kia both sustained severe damage. Fecke was cited for failure to yield right of way.

An investigation was initiated upon the report of a burglary in the 6600 block of Wizard of Oz Way, Hillsboro. This offense remains under investigation. 

At 12:30 AM Dennis Thacker, age 34 of Hillsboro was eastbound on Edwards Road when he swerved to avoid striking a cat and went left of center striking a mailbox and continued into the ditch striking a culvert. The 1999 Ford he was operating sustained disabling damage. No injuries were reported. Thacker was cited for operating a motor vehicle without a license and failure to maintain control. 

At 7:00 PM Timothy Engle, age 28 of Hillsboro was southbound on Miller's Chapel Road when a deer ran into his lane of travel causing him to strike the deer.  Engle's 2002 Chevy sustained functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

At 4:07 AM Josh McElwee, age 25 of Sinking Spring was southbound on St Rt 124 when a deer ran into his lane of travel causing him to strike the deer. The 1992 International he was operating sustained non-functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. 

At 5:00 PM Melinda Gleadle, age 46 of Hillsboro was northbound on US 62 when a deer ran into her lane of travel causing her to strike the deer. Gleadle's 2000 Toyota sustained functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

At 7:06 PM Jerald Hauke, age 78 of Sardina was northbound on US 62 when a deer ran into his lane of travel causing him to strike the deer. Hauke's 1998 Chevy sustained non-functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. 

At 7:50 PM Donna Colwell, age 54 of Hillsboro was northbound on St Rt 73 when a deer ran into her lane of travel causing her to strike the deer. Colwell's 2004 Chevy sustained non-functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

An investigation was initiated upon the report of a breaking and entering in the 13,000 block of Eubanks Lane, Hillsboro. This offense remains under investigation. 

At 6:04 PM Derek Cummings, age 18 of Hillsboro was westbound on Miller's Chapel Road when he lost control of his vehicle and went airborne crossing the center line, he then overcorrected and went off the right side of the roadway overturning and coming  to rest in the ditch. Cummings was transported by private vehicle to Highland District Hospital. The 1997 Ford he was operating sustained severe damage. Cummings was cited for failure to maintain control.

An investigation was initiated upon the report of domestic dispute in the 5900 block of West Welcome Road, Hillsboro. Upon further investigation Jeremy Kimball, age 27 of Hillsboro, was apprehended and charged with domestic violence.

At 4:00 PM James Wright, age 46 of Hillsboro was northbound on St Rt 753 when Jeff Garen, age 40 of Hillsboro was attempting to stop his vehicle at the intersection of St Rt 506 and St Rt 753 and slid through the intersection due to the ice covered roadway striking Mr. Wright's vehicle. Wright's 2001 Chevy sustained non-functional damage. Garen's 1999 Chevy sustained no damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. 

At 4:07 PM Luis Garcia, age 27 of Columbus was northbound on US 62 when due to the ice covered roadway  lost control and went off the left side of the roadway striking a guardrail and overturned. Garcia's 1999 Ford sustained severe damage. Garcia was transported by the Hillsboro Life Squad to Highland District Hospital. No citations were issued.

At 4:30 PM Vicki Holt, age 49 of South Salem was eastbound on St Rt 28 when due to the ice covered roadway lost control and  struck a guardrail and went over an embankment. Holt's 2004 Ford sustained functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. 

At 6:00 PM Deborah Brown, age 55 of Leesburg was westbound on St Rt 138 when due to the ice covered roadway lost control of her vehicle and went off the roadway overturning onto it's side. Brown's 2004 Jeep sustained functional damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. 

At 7:00 PM James Grove, age 71 of Hillsboro was eastbound on George Avenue when due to the ice covered roadway lost control of his vehicle going off the right side of the roadway overturning onto it's side. The 2006 GMC he was operating sustained disabling damage. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

While he was attempting to stop the trailer that he was pulling started to jackknife pushing the vehicle through the intersection and coming to rest against a bank.
